William goes Skim-Boarding
I (Daddy) took William to the beach today. First, we went fishing at the pier and caught some angel fish and had breakfast. Then we did one of the thing's that William loves to do the most - right now it's Skim-Boarding. He's getting pretty good.
But not all turned out so well.
As we were getting ready to leave he figured this last "trick!"

Viral Meningitis??
William spent a few days in the hospital with Viral Meningitis! It was scary, but thank goodness it wasn't the bacterial kind! He had a mild case and suffered no nerve or brain damage, but still gets a sore neck now and again. Will also got it, but didn't need to be hospitalized. He gets a stiff neck still, at times, also!

William's Pre-school Superlative
So true!!!! On her first day in the program, one of William's teachers was advised by another teacher, "If you're having a bad day, go see William. He will make you feel all better." We are so sad that the Volusia County School Board decided to cut the 34 year old Spruce Creek High School Wee Hawks Preschool Lab program. William had only been in since mid-December. We are happy that we were able to be a part of it and have made some great friends from our experience.

First Day of School!
Both girls were ready to get started and make new friends. Oddly, neither Quincy or Teasley were particularly nervous. Quincy has to go to several different buildings on campus, so she was a little worried about finding her way around. I'm hoping for good reports when they get home. This is the first year Quincy wouldn't let me walk with her to the bus stop. Our next door neighbor, Chris, is in 8th grade and they walked together.

Baby Squirrel (Stuart)
Last night, Will found a dead baby squirrel (drowned) below one of our downspouts. When he went to dispose of it, he saw there was another baby, this one alive. We googled how to care for him and emailed a rehab group, who put us in touch with a licensed squirrel rehabber here in PO. We kept him warm all night and gave him Gatorade. His eyes and ears are not yet open. Attempts to reunite him with his mom were nearly successful (squirrels will try to take back their babies), but Mom started to rebuild her nest for the baby back in our downspout. Meanwhile, baby was getting sun in his box and got overheated and dehydrated. After one hour, he was no longer moving and we had to retrieve him. He was very limp, but we eventually got him rehydrated and he peed and pooped. He (Stuart) is still not as lively as before his near heatstroke, but we are hopeful. The rehabber, Jackie, is on her way to pick him up.

Endeavor's launch
We watched the Space Shuttle Endeavor launch from atop the Dunlawton Bridge last night. What we saw was a long, thick flame quickly ascending toward space. We could also see when the rocket boosters separated from the shuttle. They looked like tiny white dots in the sky. The flame got very bright right before separation, and then it was gone. About 5 minutes after the launch, we began to hear the sonic booms one after the other. I thought it was very cool, but the kids were equally impressed by a big bug that was also watching the launch from our spot on the bridge, and by William's little blue Croc (which fell off his foot as Will held him out over the railing!!!!) floating down the Halifax River.
